කිරි සප්පයකුටත් දැනෙන ඒත් මී හරක්ට තාමත් නො තේ රෙන හෝ නො තේරුනා වගේ ඉන්න සත්‍යය.

සම හරක්ගේ හිතේ ජෙප්පන්ට බැන්නම රටේ ප්‍රශ්න ඉබේ විසදෙනවා කියලා.

රටේ මහජනතාවගේ සල්ලි හොරකම් කරන විදිය මුන්ට දිවැසින් වගේ පෙනුනට රටේ තියෙන දැවෙන ප්‍රශ්න වලට විසදුම් තාම පේන පාටක්වත් නැහැ.

ඔක්කොටම හපන් තාමත් උන්ට සඩ්ඩම්බිරාළ වැඩ කරන රිලවු ටිකකුත් ඉන්න එක.

සඩ්ඩම්බිරාළ වැඩේ හරියට කරාම සම හරක්ට ගෑස් සිලින්ඩරයකුයි, භූමි තෙල් කුප්පියකුයි, සප්පායම් වෙන්න ජොනී ස්පෙෂල් ටිකකුයි ලැබෙනවා ඇති.

ඒකයි තාමත් ජෙප්පොයි වඳ කොත්තුයි විතරක් මතක.

නැත්නම් මොලයක් තියෙන එකෙක් මෙහෙම හැසිරේවිද මේ රටට අද උදාවෙලා තියෙන තත්වේ හැටියට.

ඒ තමන්ගේ ලමයින්ට උසස් අධ්‍යාපනයක් දෙන්න අවශ්‍ය වෙලාවට නැත්නම් සුදුසු රැකියාවක් හොයන කාලේට.

They own the ignorant populace, who still act and think like enslaved servants. 

As a result, this is technically their cash.

Economic Strangulation and Annexation

The peaceful protest has been going on for more than a month on the Galle Face Green in Sri Lanka, and after authorities failed to disperse the people by threats, intimidation, and finally violence, now they are trying to fox the general public by cooking up another story.

The story is that the big bulling neighbour brother is behind all these protests and why they do it is to strangle the country’s economy, so it can be annexed to them socially and economically.

The past examples are given to affirm the theory are the formation of the European Union and China taking control of Hong Kong.

The EU was formed for mutual benefits; to avoid possible wars between nations and to remove some of the bottlenecks within the landmass.

The Hong Kong case is not similar to that.

They are only claiming their rightful landmass after the expiry of the lease China had with the UK.

The interesting thing to look at in both situations is the sort of money in use after both incidents.

The Germans are the most powerful nation economically in the EU, but instead of forcing their mark on other nations, a new unit of money called the Euro was formed.

In the case of Hong Kong, they still use their old HK dollars and not the Chinese currency.

Annexation after a military invasion is a real possibility, and Crimea is one recent example of many others littered throughout the history of mankind.

However, an annexation after systematic starvation of another country’s economy is just another fancy theory, yet to be duplicated in real life, but not an impossibility either.

The geographical location is important, but the most important and long-lasting factor is the people's will.

But without the will of the people, it would only be a nasty experiment.

And I doubt that the big bully brotherly neighbour would go down that road again, having already paid dearly for taking such a stand to feed, shelter, and protect a group of terrorists a few decades ago.

Therefore, my assumption is that this is just another devious diversion plan cooked up by the authorities and nothing more.

Long live the peaceful protest.

දශක හතකට වැඩි කාලයක් මේ රටේ මිනිසුන්ට ප්‍රඥාවන්ත නියෝජිතයෙකු අවශ්‍ය වූ නමුත් ඔවුන් කළේ එක තක්කඩියෙකු වෙනුවට තවත් තක්කඩියෙකු තෝරාගෙන මිථ්‍යා චරිත (දියසේන, රාවණා) පැමිණ අපව බේරා ගන්නා තෙක් බලා සිටීමයි.

What is the Hurry Now?

What is the hurry now? 

For more than seven decades, people in this country desired a wise representative, but all they did was choose one crook over another and wait for mythical characters ( දිය සේන, රාවණා) to come and rescue us.

If anyone wants real change, this is the right time and the opportunity too.

That does not mean going out and protesting.

It is possible for some, but not for all.

All you have to do now is to look inward and change or throw away the coloured glasses you have been wearing and support one crook or another blindly.

No doubt the ideologies are hard to change.

That is the very reason that we need to look inward first and then define what we really need for ourselves, our kids and theirs too.

All the parties hitherto did to this country was only to rape it openly, with or without our support, of course.

This has to stop now.

The first tsunami made one family of crooks damn rich, but the second one will purge all crooks in Sri Lankan politics.

The right kind of people will emerge once GR and the family of crooks are gone. 

Until then, the struggle has to continue.

Bloom or Doom ?

Our wedding was scheduled for July 30, 1987, and what occurred after Rajiv was hit by a naval rating is now history.

We had to pay twice for the wedding since we were unable to notify the hotel in time that the ceremony would be held owing to the country's condition.

Many who attended the wedding finally a week later would vouch for how frugal the wedding was thanks to the financial constraints brought in by the situation that prevailed then in the country.

We were unable to do so since, at the time, someone had set fire to the Mount Lavinia telephone exchange, rendering all landlines inoperable.

Your guess as to who is to blame for those horrible atrocities is as good as mine.

Many moons later, at a party, I ran across a high school acquaintance who, after a couple of too many drinks, became a true talker.

He began bragging about how he and a comrade in the Sri Lankan police force had destroyed several power transformers by simply opening the oil coolant valves on those units in the middle of the night.

All they needed were the blessing of a very powerful politician who was in power then, a pair of pliers and the darkness.

His father was a well-known journalist who backed the left, but he was not affiliated with any political party and merely did things for the fun of it.

I narrate this story now not to defend someone in particular, but to remind everyone that every story we see, read, or hear has some other truth to it than what we really interpret it.

As many believe, I too believe that JVP is also to be blamed for many things in the past, and if they come to power, their outdated and failed economic ideology would bring more problems to us.

The need of the hour in this country is to grow up and try to see beyond our small circles.

When I say "grow up," it means throwing away the coloured glasses we always wear to blindly defend one crook and lambast another ruthlessly.

If we as a nation can accomplish this, only true wealth will come knocking.

Otherwise, we would remain an impoverished country for many centuries, blaming all of our problems on other religions, ethnicities, foreign powers, and so on.

The choice is ours.

Finally, you have the option of agreeing or disagreeing.

Turning the other Cheek !

If you can do it on a regular basis, turning the other cheek is a really valuable trait.

However, when your hormone levels are at their highest and you're fighting to suppress impulses, a small provocation or nudge might easily break anyone's self-control.

This is how I interpret some of the recent events in the country.

When I mention some of the incidents, I don't imply that burnings and looting are included.

Protests in various parts of the country were completely peaceful for three weeks.

Then there's the question of how it became something else.

The triggering point was some unwanted people turning up with improvised arms and beating up protestors who were trying to protect their grounds.

To add insult to injury, authorities who were expected to ensure law and order were preserved at all costs did so by turning a blind eye or siding with armed mercenaries sent by politicians.

When someone is attacked, no reasonable person will turn the other cheek.

The survival instinct would take over instead.

Is it possible that the protestors are being led into a trap?

It's too early to say, but it's extremely probable that a few with other malicious motives and agendas have taken advantage of the situation.

The best strategy is to stay put and keep nonviolent when different officials issue very contradicting comments on how to deal with the protest and protestors.

Many things have changed as a result of the protest, and they should be considered a few feathers in the hat.

However, the fundamental reason we all took to the streets has yet to be fully realized, and the nonviolent protest should continue until that goal is met.

Many people would think twice about organizing another disruptive group after seeing what the mercenaries’ got in response recently.

The major issue right now is forcing uniformed personnel to use their weapons on unarmed and peaceful protestors.

I am hopeful that sanity will prevail in everyone’s mind and that those who are in uniforms will think more than twice before adhering to a mass murder call.

Those who have blood on their hands already don't mind getting more, but those who have clean hands must consider twice before doing something that their parents, children, and wives will not be proud of in the end.

Instead of turning the other cheek, utilize your common sense and sensibility to avoid similar situations now.

In the end, let sanity and reasonableness triumph in everyone's thoughts.

රටේ නීතිය සහ සාමය සුරැකීම !

අද රටේ නීතිය හා සාමය කොහිදැයි සමාජ මාධ්‍යවල ඇතැම් අය අසන අතර, එය ඇසිය යුතු ඉතා වැදගත් ප්‍රශ්නයක් බවත් මම විශ්වාස කරමි.

ප්‍රශ්නය හොඳින් විග්‍රහ කිරීමට නම් ප්‍රථමයෙන් ප්‍රශ්න කිහිපයකට පිළිතුරු සැපයිය යුතුය.

පළමුවැන්න රටක නීතිය හා සාමය තහවුරු කළ යුත්තේ කවුරුන්ද යන්නයි.

එය බලයේ සිටින රජය සමඟද නැතිනම් වෙනත් අයෙකු සමඟද ඇත්තේ ?

දෙවනුව, නිරායුධ විරෝධතාකරුවන්ට පහර දීම සඳහා සිර දඬුවම් නියම වූ සිරකරුවන් යොදා ගැනීම රටේ නීතිය හා සාමය කඩ කරන්නේ කවුරුන්ද යන්න පිළිබඳ පැහැදිලි දර්ශකයකි.

තෙවනුව, මෙම කතිකාවේ වේලාව සහ දැන් එය කරන්නේ කවුද යන්න ගවේෂණය කිරීමද  ඉතා වදැගත් වේ.

ඔබේ රටින් පැනගිය ඊනියා වීරයන් විසින් ඉතිරි කර ගිය අවුල අවසානයේ තරුණයින්ට නිරාකරණය කිරීමට ඉඩ දෙන්න.

Law & Order , My Foot !

Some people on social media are asking where law and order are in the country today, and I believe it is an important question to ask.

To dissect the issue well, a few questions need to be answered first.

The first one is who is supposed to ensure law and order in a country.

Is it with the government in power or with someone else?

Obviously, we have an elected government in power currently and if they have failed to ensure and enforce law and order in the country, then blaming the third party for their failure is not called for, in my opinion.

Second, using persons who have been condemned to prison to beat up on unarmed protestors is a clear indicator of who is breaching the law and order in the country.

Thirdly, the timing of the call and who is making it now are important to explore.

Those who are very vociferous on social media now, were in a deep slumber when the present government was blatantly breaking it daily.

One example is giving a presidential pardon to a convicted murderer who was sentenced to life in prison by three courts in the country and never uttered a word in protest then.

When their so-called heroes are forced to reap what they have sown and taste their own medicine for the first time in the country's history, they decide that now is the time to speak up.

Nobody is giving a hoot about those සඩ්ඩම්බිරාළලා calls now.

Return to your self-imposed slumber and let the youth finally sort out the mess your so-called religion left behind.

Once the Last Aircraft Leaves ?

At 7:53 AM, April 30th, 1975 the last helicopter took its wings, carrying Major Kean and 10 Marine Security Guards. This helicopter landed on USS Okinawa at 8:30 AM. And it was truly the last helicopter out of Saigon.

1975 අප්‍රේල් 30 වන දින පෙ.ව. 7:53 ට මේජර් කීන් සහ නාවික ආරක්ෂක භටයන් 10 දෙනෙකු රැගත් අවසන් හෙලිකොප්ටරය එහි පියාපත් රැගෙන ගියේය. මෙම හෙලිකොප්ටරය USS ඔකිනාවා වෙත ගොඩ බැස්සේ 8:30 ටය. එය සැබවින්ම සයිගොන් වෙතින් පිටත් වූ අවසන් හෙලිකොප්ටරය විය.

What happened after this is now history.

මෙයින් පසු සිදුවූ දේ දැන් ඉතිහාසයයි.

Now Rajapakse crooks are planning the same with two aircraft on standby at Katunayake and Ratmalana airports.

දැන් කටුනායක සහ රත්මලාන ගුවන් තොටුපලවල ගුවන් යානා දෙකක් සූදානම් කර තබාගෙන රාජපක්ෂ තක්කඩියන් සැලසුම් කරන්නේද එයමය.

Once they leave, what will happen to those who worshipped and the henchmen who protected the Rajapakses despite all their crooked activities? 

We can only speculate now.

උන් ගියාට පස්සේ ඔය මොන තක්කඩි වැඩ කරත් රාජපක්ෂලා රැකපු හෙන්චයියන්ට, වන්දනා කරපු උන්ට මොකද වෙන්නේ? 

අපට දැන් කළ හැක්කේ අනුමාන කිරීම පමණි.

එදා පිට කොටුවේ හරස් විදී ගානේ  ඩොලර් වලට වැඩි ගානක් දෙනවා කියලා, කොටි පවත්තන් ගිය සල්ලි මාරු කරන් තැන් හොය හොය රස්තියාදු ගහපු එකාලා අද මහා දේශප්‍රේමීණ් වෙලා.

දැන් කියනවා උන් දැනගෙන හියියේ නැහැලු ඒවයි වැඩි මිළට ගත්තේ දකුණේ බැංකු මංකොල්ල කාලා ගත්ත සල්ලි කියලත්.

එදා විස්තර හොයන්න කිය කියා ටැමිල් නෙට් එකේ රස්තියාදු ගහපු එකාලා අද හොඳ දේශප්‍රේමීණ් වෙලා.

පාලුවක් දැනෙන එකකු නැති වෙයි, මොකද ලේ නෑයොත් ඉන්නවා නේ එහේ.

මේවට තමයි කියන්නේ අබුස්දස කාළේ ලබුත් තිත්තයි කියලා.

 A few things people can do when police try to bundle them into police vans. 

Do not fight back.

Otherwise, the police will try to add one or more charges to the sheet.

Disorderly conduct,

Resisting arrest,

Ask the reason for the arrest.

Police are required to provide a reason for their actions rather than simply loading people into buses and jeeps.

Obtain the name and staff number of the police officer (preferably on video) trying the arrest.

Again, they are duty-bound to part with the information requested.

Blunt refusal could lead them to break their internal code of conduct and, most importantly, the constitution.

Having credible video evidence can be used later to prove human rights violations, damage claims, and so on.

I am not someone with a legal background and use common sense only.

I hope someone with a real legal background can shed more light on this issue.

For a Brighter Future in Sri Lanka.

Watching from afar what is going on in Sri Lanka, I have a very mixed feeling.

I was saddened to see the difficulties the people have to endure and was not able to participate in person due to my present circumstances.

Furthermore, the inaction by those who have been sent by the people to the legislature to sort out such things so far.

For a few reasons, I am happy too.

The first one is to see that, finally, many people in the country are feeling the power of collective bargaining.

And the hegemony that was created by politicians and those who are in robes for their own benefits is being broken slowly but surely.

The third reason is that I was able to predict the trajectory of many things a few years ago and am glad that I have put them in writing here.

Being able to be ahead of the curve is something I can’t be very happy about, but not in these circumstances, which is why it was a very mixed feeling overall.

In general, if people in Sri Lanka used their brains rather than trying blindly to defend their foolish ideologies, such a thing would not have ever occurred.

My supplication to all is to use their common sense and brainpower than try to defend foolish ideologies created by those in robes and unscrupulous politicians in power.

For a brighter future in Sri Lanka.

Politics, whether some people like it or not, will, unfortunately, have an effect on everyone.

It won't help if you behave ostrich-like.

You either defend what you perceive to be true or deny what you feel to be false.

When many people want to play the ostrich roll, others must step in and keep the ball rolling.

What's stopping us from doing the same, just like Ostriches?

Because, unlike those selfish ostriches, we care.

Playing it safe like Ostriches opts to do is the easiest approach to get the benefits in either case.

Ostriches observe things in this way.

Some interesting animal facts will help shed light on their behaviour as well.

The ostrich's eyes are about the size of billiard balls.

They take up so much room in the skull that the ostrich's brain is actually smaller than either one of its eyeballs.
