Once the Last Aircraft Leaves ?

At 7:53 AM, April 30th, 1975 the last helicopter took its wings, carrying Major Kean and 10 Marine Security Guards. This helicopter landed on USS Okinawa at 8:30 AM. And it was truly the last helicopter out of Saigon.

What happened after this is now history.

මෙයින් පසු සිදුවූ දේ දැන් ඉතිහාසයයි.

Now Rajapakse crooks are planning the same with two aircraft on standby at Katunayake and Ratmalana airports.

Once they leave, what will happen to those who worshipped and the henchmen who protected the Rajapakses despite all their crooked activities?

We can only speculate now.

That’s the end of decades of devastation brought about in Vietnam by pro American South Vietnamese Army supported by the American forces. Americans had to leave partly due to the grave opposition at home by Americans for America being involved in decades long war bringing in lot of human casualties and, waste of lot of American resources which they felt would have been used for the benefit of themselves at home . Vietnamese won because of the atrocities and ill treatment of Vietnamese brought about by Americans in their effort to win the war with Communists led by Ho Chi Ming , supported by Russia and China with war materials. Vietnamese committed and united as one to chase the enemy.

Rest is history but worth mentioning.
Now, decades later , America has became Vietnam’s biggest trade partner and the major foreign stakeholders of Vietnam’s rapid development. Huge American investments have led up to massive industrial and Agri projects with American companies present in large numbers. Vietnam government has supported creating enable environment: no trade unions, no protests , easy hire and fire , if government or leaders are criticized they are immediately put in jail, everybody has to work hard and contribute and therefore no room for gossiping and wasting productive time.

We also must bring in such a system and make productive use of this youth who waste their time on social media for unnecessary stuff. Sri Lankan leaders are too democratic and that reminds me of a Good pious and innocent snake who was used by village women even to tie their fire wood bundles. Discipline cannot be brought about , in a under developed country , through democracy which can only be practiced in and suited to a developed country. Le Kwan Yew etc administered their counties with an iron fist.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

A lot needs to be done, and it's unclear where to begin, but we have to start somewhere.

I always believe that improvement begins with I.

Hi , Sasanka . It was me Chalana Amerasinghe who, if you can remember, was in Traffic stores at the Terminal Building when you were busy typing , operating Banda machines and, running to and fro aircraft carrying the bag full of passenger manifests at Documentation, with colleagues like Sira, Anil, Gamlath,Bandula and Jina , to name those I could remember from those wonderful days.

I enjoy reading your resourceful posts. They carry very useful messages and deal with current topics.

About change should begin at home from I , I totally agree with you.
However , as we are humans with feelings one cannot expect I or anybody to leave the loved once unattended. So, however much one dislikes, there will be a point at which blood runs thicker and family , relations etc and friends take priority. It’s common for everyone and leaders cannot be excluded. They have to treat, in addition, the people around them well ( including security personnel) as that is vital for their survival. Therefore, one cannot expect the ideal “I” in anybody and leaders ( even Rajapakshas ) are not exception.

Yes, I remember.
I agree that nobody is faultless.
But it does not mean that we should carry on because all our methods are faulty.
That will lead anyone anywhere.
I write for two purposes.
One is to get things out of my chest, and the other is to try to educate the less fortunate.
That is the very reason I started posting blogs in Sinhala as well now.
Keep in touch.
