Child in the Crowd

When the Emperor paraded before his Subjects in his newly woven clothes, a child in the crowd cries out, “Look he isn't wearing anything at all!” And in the modern days, many of us are like the subjects in the “Emperor’s new clothes” story. For the fear of losing something, many tend to keep their mouths shut even when the truth is obvious and pretend that everything around us is just fine and working in perfect harmony, although they are not. And who takes the front seats of this phenomenon are the professionals, religious and minority leaders to name a few. The day you become or try to become the “Child in the Crowd”, you will be branded as a traitor and or a person inciting religious and or racial disharmony. But as long as we act like the subjects did, they will do exactly what the weavers did to the Emperor in the first place. Fleece! How long are we going to allow the modern day Weavers to fleece us? When do we get the courage to be that “Child in the Crowd”? Do not be afraid...

Beware ! Foot soldiers are in action !

I posted on my FB wall “ Beware ! Foot soldiers of the Looter gang are already in action everywhere ”. Sudden interest of needing to change the present regime is taking momentum in every social media platforms. Some hide behind saffron colour robes and some behind their Professional Titles. This is in no way in endorsing most of the actions hitherto taken by the present regime. They miserably failed and the peoples trust was pawned for a few political mileages. That is another subject. The sudden interest of wanting to change the present regime was taken my interest too being a concerned citizen. But the more I prod for answers, all what I had been getting were වැට උඩ answers than anything conclusive. This baffles me and I did some of my own detective works quietly and then I realized that these calls for changes are not really coming from concerned citizens. They are indeed being funded by the previous “ Looter Murder Gang “ from their plundered public money to create an atmosphere t...

Abolition of Free Education in Sri Lanka

(  This was my rejoinder to a post appeared in another social media forum, advocating the abolition of Free Education in Sri Lanka ). When we ( my wife & I ) attended our daughter’s induction ceremony at the university a few years back, the VC in his speech mentioned that the government was spending more than Seven hundred thousand rupees on every student attending that particular degree programmer. After the speeches, we were served traditional Sri Lankan food ( කිරි බත් , කැවුම් , කෙසෙල් සහ තේ ) by some senior students. That time, I was in much relaxed state of mind and I had an opportunity to observe my other fellow parents. They all were brimming from ear to ear with happiness. Among the crowd there were so many in clean cloths but that have not even being pressed to suit the occasion and their footwear had seen much better days to say the least. While returning home, I told my wife that I am happy, not only because our daughter got admitted to one of the best ...

Every Other Person in Sri Lanka a Patriot Now !

Just before the Indian independence, the Colonial masters held Gandhiji behind bars for his non-violent freedom seeking activities. So were many other Indians found guilty of defecating along the railway lines. When he was finally released from the captivity along the others who were also held there, because of defecating charges (due to over-crowding situation), they were the first people to rush out from their cells, shouting Freedom slogans. There was a time in Sri Lanka not so long ago that the Armed forces were having a very tough time recruiting new carders to supplement their drive and the government was mulling the idea of conscription to solve the issue. The forces have to go to far flung villages in abject poverty to get young boys and girls to join them.  They joined not because for their love for the country but to feed their families as no other vocation was available to them in those villages which are blighted with No schools, hospitals, roads, electrici...
