What a World we are living in today?

The man who took a banned terrorist organisation's flag to a highly venerated religious place in another part of the world yesterday is now claiming that he would not allow outsider to create religious disharmony in the country.

Those who have helped terrorists and their supporters to slip through the border posts and claim political asylums in another country by taking brides have now become patriots and pledging to protect the country by all means.

Man who has done so much to the Sri Lankan Cricket is now being branded a traitor by some who have not done anything to uplift the game in anyway, because he has agreed teach a few foreign guys a few tricks with the Cherry.

Men who sold the country’s World Cup dream for money and favours are being branded as Heroes; where the whistle-blower is being branded a traitor because he refused to play a few matches for the country due to a well know injury.

Those who have looted billions of wealth from the country are being treated as heroes and another who stole something worth 100 rupees is beaten Black and Blue in public.

People who cry a lot about the agony of elephants here are conveniently forgetting the agonies of other animals that they devour as their comfort food and some others being kept as slaves, but calling them PETs.

The list is long and goes on ...........

Present Power Crisis in Sri Lanka

Those who are responsible for creating the present power crisis in Sri Lanka is deadlier than the LTTE TIGERS who attacked the economically important targets in Sri Lanka once.

Sending troops to guard the installations and facilities is just a cosmetic gesture only to boost the confidence of the general public.

If someone is determined, he or she can do more harm even while the troops watch over the facilities with guns in their hands but not knowing exactly what is going on there inside.

Army Engineering guys should be sent in now, at least they have the technical knowledge to see, if and when something is amiss.

But, how to deal with the saboteurs with best and quick result oriented way is the important question.

How did we treat the LTTE TIGERS and the same way those who were responsible should be treated, if we are to see a better life tomorrow.

The government should put more resources and time to investigate this incident and bring people who are alleged to have been responsible for it.

Treat them firmly, including their behind the curtain backers too.

Throw them all behind bars and throw the key away for them to rot in that rotten place forever.

That way, it will send a strong message to everyone and those who are thinking of such acts in future will be stopped in their strides.

Treat them the same way we treated the LTTE TIGERS.

Wipe them out without mercy.

Sri Lanka would be a better place without such people.

Over to you President, if you are listening.

Misconceived Notion of Some Tamils.

Misconceived Notion of Some Tamils

By Sasanka De Silva - Sultanate of Oman

It is a common and general misconception that the Tamils in Sri Lanka
took arms against the Sinhalese because of the discriminatory practices
by the latter against the minority Tamils.

There are two types of Tamils in Sri Lanka. One is the Sri Lankan
Tamils and the others the Indian Tamils. The latter were brought to the
island by the British to work in Tea plantations. They comprise 5.6% of
the population. On the other hand, the Sri Lankan Tamils whom the LTTE
terrorists claim that they are duty bound to liberate and are calling
for the Eelam are 12.6%. Out of which, 6.5% live in the Northern part
of Sri Lanka, 2.7% in the East and the rest, 3.4% live in the other
parts of the country.

If the discriminations against the minority were so prevalent then the
numbers would have drastically been different. Almost half of the Sri
Lankan Tamils are living side by side with the majority and other
ethnic groups in Sri Lanka in other parts of Sri Lanka. It is a fact
none can deny.

The Tamils in Sri Lanka or for that matter any minority is free and
entitled to live anywhere in the country, free to own properties or
run business, practice their religion & customs, to have Education in
his own choice of language, obtained Employments, Medical and Health
benefits, like the majority of Sinhalese. Perhaps there may have been
isolated cases of Tamils being denied employment opportunity in one of
the key sensitive areas of employment such as National Security for
that matter. Given the prevailing War scenario in the country, can
anyone be blamed for such actions and it may have been done only
because of the sensitivity of the issue and not because of the minority
state of that person.

Furthermore, there are special Public holidays declared by the majority
Sinhalese government on important Hindu religious and festival days to
enable the minority to celebrate and partake in their own religious
and cultural festivals.

Every Government document is printed in all three national languages
and Tamils are free to submit them in their own mother tongue, may it
be the Birth registration, School Admission, Marriage Certificate to
Death Certificate.

All the road maps are printed in all three languages and every public
transport services routes are displayed in all three National languages
and not to mention the road signs. Even if you go to any part of the
furthest south of the island, one would find everything is available
even in Tamil as well.

I think that this is a very unique situation, although some Tamils who
have other vested interests in this so-called minority (or read
Terrorist) issue do not wish to accept it. Otherwise, how could they be
able to reap the benefits from the developed western counties, while
staying there as political refugees in those countries? No war means No
more staying there in comfort.

I believe that no Tamil living (I think except the ones living in Tamil Nadu) in any other part of the world, let it be in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji etc or the ones that
are barking from those places like United Kingdom, Canada, Australia
and other developed countries have such privileges and benefits, like
the ones that are enjoyed by the minority Sri Lankan Tamils, while
living in as a minority as well in those places. If that is what, one
calls the discriminatory practices of the majority Sinhalese against
the minority Sri Lankan Tamils, then either the person does not know
the meaning of the word Discrimination or he is a hypocrite.

Thai Pongal is a declared public holiday in Sri Lanka but it is not in India today.

Ask yourself why and then you will realize that Sri Lanka is the best place for any minority to live.

This was written and appeared in the Daily New newspaper in Sri Lanka in Mid 2000.
I am reposting this not to engage in any debate or arguments again but simply for the benefit of a few who have shown sign of  " Selective Amnesia " after the recent Presidential election in 2015.

LTTE VANDALES AND THE MEDIA

For the majority of those who are living in Sri Lanka and abroad the war is finally over.

When the final victory was announced, people spontaneously came out on to streets to celebrate.

Though it was tersely reported in many international Medias, among them were many Tamils living in and around cities too have voluntarily joined the frolicking crowds.

They too lit crackers, cried, laughed, sang, danced and enjoyed communally cooked “Kiri Bath” and “Lunu Miris”, with the other merrymakers.

An identical incident happened, some years back but that too was only reported tersely.

When the Indo-Lanka peace treaty was announced in 1987, the Tamils who were living then in the north of the country too came out in thousands on to streets to celebrate, when they heard that one of the preconditions of the treaty is to, all armed Tamil groups to surrender their arms.

All groups were surprised and only a few were annoyed and angered.

I do not think that I need to go in to details of what happened after the treaty was signed and how the LTTE terrorists turned their guns on the other Tamil groups who have surrendered their arms, because the atrocities are well kwon and well documented.

Unfortunately but not surprisingly, after the Sri Lankan Army announced its victory over the terrorists, some of the supporters the defeated terrorists living in places like the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France and Italy have gone berserk and have started to taking law in to their own hands.

They have started attacking and vandalizing Buddhist temples, shops and other establishments run by the Sri Lankans and even gone to the extent of throwing Acid on some Sri Lankans students following higher studies or gainfully employed in those countries.

Again, the international media deliberately and conveniently failed to report these incidents, instead wasting their time, money and energy harping on a looming humanitarian catastrophe in Sri Lanka, when the government assures everyone that it is capable of handling it along without the medaling of so-called international aid agencies.

If the supports of this defeated terrorist organization are behaving this badly in their defeat, the onus of determining how they would have reacted, I leave with your good conscience to decide, if they have won.

They would have put Cambodia and Rwanda in to shade.
