The people's protest at the Galle Face Green continues despite many obstacles for two weeks now. Unfortunately, there have been incidents of violence and vandalism reported in some parts of the island during some of the sporadic protests sparked in some parts of the island. The interesting question is, why was it not at the Galle Face green but at other locations? Similar sorts of incidents have been reported during the so-called uprising of the southern youths in the latter part of the 80s. Initially, the youths were blamed and held accountable by all, but later it was revealed that though the youths were partly responsible for some of those killings and vandalistic acts, the bulk was carried out by some goons with the blessing and the backing of the regime that was in power then.
