When Someone Points to the Moon / නුවණැති පුද්ගලයා සඳ දෙස බලන අතර මෝඩයා බලන්නේ ඒ දෙසට යොමු වන ඇඟිල්ල දෙස පමණි.

 The saying “When someone points to the moon, the wise person looks at the moon, whereas the foolish person only looks at the finger that is pointing to it” attributed to Gautama Buddha is a metaphor for people who are easily distracted by trivial matters and lose sight of the bigger picture.

This means that, whereas the wise person can see the big picture and understand the underlying meaning, the foolish person can only focus on the surface of the situation.

In other words, the saying implies that wisdom entails being able to see beyond the obvious and comprehend the underlying meaning of things.

It warns us not to get caught up in details or distractions and encourages us to focus on what truly matters.

As a result, the saying serves as a reminder to look beyond the surface of things in order to gain a deeper understanding of life and the world around us.

ගෞතම බුදුන් වහන්සේට ආරෝපණය කරන ලද කියමන “නුවණැති පුද්ගලයා සඳ දෙස බලන අතර මෝඩයා බලන්නේ ඒ දෙසට යොමු වන ඇඟිල්ල දෙස පමණි”  සුළු කාරණාවලින් පහසුවෙන් අවධානය වෙනතකට යොමු කර විශාල පින්තූරයක් නොපෙනෙන මිනිසුන් සඳහා රූපකයකි.

මෙයින් අදහස් කරන්නේ ප්‍රඥාවන්ත පුද්ගලයාට විශාල චිත්‍රය දැක එහි යටි අරුත තේරුම් ගත හැකි වුවද, මෝඩ පුද්ගලයාට අවධානය යොමු කළ හැක්කේ තත්වයේ මතුපිටට පමණක් බවයි.

වෙනත් වචන වලින් කිවහොත්, ප්‍රඥාව යනු පැහැදිලිව පෙනෙන දෙයකින් ඔබ්බට දැකීමට සහ දේවල්වල යටි අරුත තේරුම් ගැනීමට හැකිවීම බව කියමනෙන් ගම්‍ය වේ.

විස්තර හෝ අවධානය වෙනතකට යොමු නොකිරීමට එය අපට අනතුරු අඟවන අතර සැබවින්ම වැදගත් දේ කෙරෙහි අවධානය යොමු කිරීමට අපව දිරිමත් කරයි.

එහි ප්‍රතිඵලයක් වශයෙන්, ජීවිතය සහ අප අවට ලෝකය පිළිබඳ ගැඹුරු අවබෝධයක් ලබා ගැනීම සඳහා දේවල් මතුපිටින් ඔබ්බට බැලීමට මෙම කියමන මතක් කිරීමක් ලෙස සේවය කරයි.
