Most parts of the island are experiencing some form of travel restrictions and curfews due to spreading of the deadly virus. Despite these travel restrictions and curfews in force, there had been reports of mass gatherings at some religious places recently. I am sure that all those gatherings were Bona Fide and with one thing in mind and that was to invoke blessing to the entire globe and seek divine protection of the cosmic powerhouse. Usually, as masses run out of other options, seeking protection from the cosmic powerhouse is not something new to the world. Has anyone tried to pay their Sri Lanka Telecom ( SLT ) invoices online very recently? To avoid people coming out from their own cocoons, the service provider sent a short message with a hyperlink asking to pay bills online. From the moment it was received, I was trying to pay my bill with no success. The warning comes back to say some Third-Party failure without elaborating much. This is a typical way of blaming another for one’s own shortcomings. The chat option available on the site is just there but nobody seems to be manning it. The Helpline (011 243 4649) is not manned either. And the ultimate helpline 1212 has no such option there either to be able a customer to connect with an agent and resolve the issue. What a sad state of affairs? I am sure that some may try to defend this shoddy service level by citing the epidemic condition in the country. The tendency to settle for less is endemic and that is why what we are today.

T his is in no way to endorse and or to condone the proposed and impending health workers work stoppage to force the authorities to give in to their demands in the middle of an epidemic situation not only in the country but all over the world. Their demands may be all legitimate and reasonable but emphatically and unequivocally that it is bad timing, unethical and action not called for at a crisis time like this. Many people debate two things these days. One is the xenophobic suggestion by a Television journalist of having the right to kill one segment of the society and the other is to have the same segment’s rightful burial rites. First thing first I cannot endorse and or approve if anyone advocates killing and or condoning such brutal advocacies. Now to the second issue of whether someone should be able to bury a dead body according to their own believes. Yes, they should not be denied that under normal circumstances and otherwise it will be a case of suppressing someone’s religious freedom. Nande is an innocent guy living closer to the house brought some fresh vegetables from his own farm to our doorstep this morning and after accepting his generosity, I posted the below on my Facebook wall. නන්දේගෙන් අද ගමට වෙන සේවය බැලුවම මේ යෝදයව එන පාර නගර සබාවට යවන්න සුදුසුයි. කෝ මේ චන්දේ දීලා ඒකට ඇරපු ගෝලයෝ ටික අද? After seeing it, some got very angry and posted some comments and a few others PM me showing their displeasure and also exposing their own disposition too. For serious discussion only. This morning someone posted a disparaging comment on my Facebook wall referring Sai Baba devotees as idiots. My initial reaction was not to respond to his irresponsible remark but later I thought otherwise and responded with some real facts. My suggestion was for him to go to Bangalore and Paththi to see the Super Specialty Hospitals, schools from kindergarten to university entrance level, universities, water supply facility, airport etc built and operating there free of charge, thanks to those whom, he has referred to as idiots before making any assumptions and it will help him for his own transformation both outwardly as well as inwardly.
