CAVOK Explained !
Those who have watched aviation-related films and/or listened to Air Traffic Control radio channels must have heard the term CAVOK (pronounced "KAV-OH-KAY"), which stands for Ceiling And Visibility OK.
It is a shorthand code used globally in meteorological reports—specifically METARs (routine aerodrome reports) and TAFs (terminal aerodrome forecasts)—as well as in Air Traffic Control (ATC) voice communications. Rather than listing visibility, cloud cover, and present weather separately, meteorologists use CAVOK to signal that weather conditions are exceptionally clear for operations.
