Two young men riding on a Uva Province (UP) registered Motorbike were found behaving suspiciously with one of them with his phone in conversation with someone near the Buddha Statue in Mihindu Mawatha, Makumbura were stopped and questioned around 01.00 am this morning. ඌවපළාතේ (යූපී) ලියාපදිංචි යතුරුපැදියකින් යමින් සිටි තරුණයන් දෙදෙනෙකු මාකුඹුර, මිහිඳු මාවතේ බුදු පිළිමය අසලදී යමෙකු සමඟ සංවාදයේ යෙදී  සැක කටයුතු ලෙස හැසිරෙන අයුරු අද අලුයම 01.00 ට පමණ සොයාගෙන තිබේ.  Initially, they were sticking to their story of coming to the area to look for some masonry work opportunities.  Last night a friend of mine sent me a video in which a girl was lambasting teachers’ industrial action seeking better pay. These are my responses to it given in dot points. ·          I fully agree with her argument that this is not the right time to start something like that as the whole world is grappling with an epidemic situation, ·          Having said that, one has to agree that teachers are one of the poorest paid professions in the country, ·          However, this profession has now become a refuge for most incompetent people, ·          This profession needs much better pay scales to attract talented and competent talents and not the residual found in the society, ·          At the same time, introduction of a way to measure and assess their outputs periodically ...
